Reflections on my Second Semester in the VSEM Program

As the final bells ring on my second semester in the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management (VSEM) program, I’m taking a moment to breathe and look back. If the first semester was about finding my footing, this term was about running at full speed. Between high-stakes consulting projects, professional growth, and hands-on industry experience, the last few months have been a masterclass in the business of play.

From the DACH Region to the Savannah Bananas

The academic rigor this semester pushed our cohort to think like global executives. One of my primary focuses was a global marketing project for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where my group developed a strategic framework to expand the Bucs' brand presence in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland). Navigating the nuances of international fan engagement was a challenge that felt both timely and rewarding.

In a sharp turn toward the "World's Fastest Game," I also dove into a data analytics project for the Savannah Bananas. Analyzing short- and long-term growth trajectories for a brand that has completely disrupted the traditional sports model was eye-opening. It proved that in today’s market, data-driven creativity is the ultimate competitive advantage.

Professional Growth & Leadership

Outside the classroom, I’ve continued to sharpen my technical skills as a Digital Marketing Analyst at WMT. My days are spent in the weeds of Meta, Google, and MNTN, fulfilling campaign requests and crafting Year-over-Year (YoY) performance recaps for our partners. Seeing the direct ROI of digital strategies has been the perfect bridge between my coursework and the "real world."

I am also incredibly honored to have been appointed to our SEMA board. Helping guide our incoming students is a responsibility I don't take lightly; I’m excited to pay forward the mentorship I’ve received.

The Power of the Tampa Bay Sports Community

None of this would be possible without the incredible ecosystem here in Tampa. This semester, I’ve had the chance to volunteer with heavy hitters like the Bucs, the Lightning, the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, and EA Sports. A behind-the-scenes visit to Feld Entertainment further cemented my fascination with the sheer scale of global touring operations.

Next Stop: Europe

While the semester is technically over, the learning doesn't stop. I am currently packing my bags for our program’s international trip to London and Brussels. We’ll be touring iconic venues like The O2, exploring "dry slopes" for winter sports, and meeting with international sport governing bodies.

This journey has been a whirlwind, but looking at how much has been accomplished in just a few months, I couldn’t be more excited for what’s next. Cheers to a summer of global perspectives!
